Preparations for the globally acclaimed World Travel Awards (WTA) are in full swing, with Tanzania poised to host the prestigious ceremony for the first time since its inception in 1993.
Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Ambassador Dr. Pindi Chana, announced in Dar es Salaam after receiving a detailed briefing from the national organizing committee overseeing the event’s preparations. She underscored the importance of meticulous coordination, urging the committee to ensure that every aspect of the event meets international standards.
“This is a proud moment for Tanzania. Hosting the World Travel Awards is not only a great honour, but also a strategic opportunity to project our country as a world-class tourism destination,” said Dr. Chana.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 28, 2025, at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam. The event is expected to attract over 500 high-profile guests, including tourism leaders, industry experts, and media representatives from across the globe.
Dubbed “the Oscars of the travel industry,” the World Travel Awards celebrate excellence across the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors. This year’s edition presents Tanzania with a unique platform to showcase its iconic attractions, cultural heritage, and warm hospitality to a global audience.
“Tanzania has consistently proven its tourism potential from the Serengeti and Mount Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar’s pristine beaches. Now is the time to amplify that message on the global stage,” the Minister noted.
By hosting the event, Tanzania aims not only to strengthen its brand visibility but also to unlock fresh opportunities for tourism investment, create jobs, and reinforce the country’s role as a gateway to Africa’s natural wonders.
The World Travel Awards were established to acknowledge and reward excellence in the global travel and tourism industry. Over the years, they have established themselves as a hallmark of quality and leadership in the sector. This milestone event in Dar es Salaam is expected to generate significant media coverage and position Tanzania at the heart of global tourism conversations.
